Her canvas towered against the bare brick wall. The cotton-white blankness startled Sarah, she wasn’t sure what she would or could create this time. Usually she held her palette and brush, briskly stroked its primed surface, with orchestral music playing in the background. Her favourite pianist was Ludovico Einaudi. Today she wanted a change: austere silence. Her aim was to create out of an emptiness, that her studio’s hollow acoustics would capture whatever presently possessed her. Assembling colours proved difficult; the reds, blues and yellows were too loud. She hadn’t realised until then the sounds colours made.
