Aké Arts & Book Festival is one of the most celebrated and largest literary festival in Africa which takes place in November every year in Nigeria. The festival’s flagship publication, Ake Review Journal, will publish Marcelle Mateki Akita’s story Victoria Underground alongside other African writers. The story is set on the stuffy Victoria underground platform, where workers are waiting for their next tube home. In this claustrophobic space, a woman notices someone who triggers a familiarity that she ultimately investigates.

The festival and journal this year are focusing on the theme ‘Beneath This Skin’.

Sub-themes include: identity, loss, public space and memory.

 AFREADA is ‘Africa’s Literary Magazine’. The online literary magazine published Marcelle Mateki Akita’s short story Cassava’s Finest. A story looking a young woman’s choice to live an unconventional lifestyle, and her drive to achieving whatever she sets her mind to. The story is set in Accra and Tema in Ghana.

Sub-themes include: power, family relationships, migration, religion, independence, romance and sex.
